Paris Saint-Germain began their UEFA Champions League campaign in emphatic fashion, cruising to a 4-0 victory over Atalanta at the Parc des Princes as they kicked off their title defence.
The French giants wasted no time asserting control. Captain Marquinhos struck just three minutes in to open the scoring, before Khvicha Kvaratskhelia doubled the lead with a dazzling solo effort that left the Italian defence scrambling.
PSG could have widened the gap before halftime, but Bradley Barcola’s penalty was denied by goalkeeper Marco Carnesecchi.
Luis Enrique’s men tightened their grip after the restart. Nuno Mendes rifled home a third with a powerful finish, and substitute Gonçalo Ramos capitalised on a late Atalanta mistake in stoppage time to complete the rout.
The reigning champions now prepare for crucial group-stage meetings with Barcelona and Bayer Leverkusen in October, while Atalanta will look to regroup when they face Club Brugge later this month.
