Galatasaray forward, Victor Osimhen, etched his name in the club’s history books on Wednesday night after firing a hat-trick in their 3-0 UEFA Champions League win against Ajax.
The Nigerian striker opened scoring in the 59th minute, nodding in a cross from Leroy Sané. Seven minutes later, he converted from the penalty spot to double the lead, before completing his treble with another calm penalty in the 78th minute.
Osimhen has now scored six Champions League goals this season, having previously found the net against Bodo/Glimt (twice) and Liverpool.
According to Opta, he is now the first player in Galatasaray’s history to score at least two goals in two straight Champions League matches.
His hat-trick also makes him the first Galatasaray player to score three goals in a European fixture since Burak Yılmaz’s treble against Cluj in 2012.
Additionally, Osimhen becomes the first Nigerian to record a Champions League hat-trick since Yakubu Ayegbeni scored three for Maccabi Haifa in a 3-0 victory over Olympiacos back in 2002.
