Champions League: Hansi Flick Tips Marcus Rashford to Shine for Barcelona in Yamal’s Absence

With teenage sensation Lamine Yamal ruled out due to a groin injury, Flick believes Rashford—currently on loan from Manchester United—has the talent and experience to make a decisive impact at Camp Nou.
“I’ve followed Marcus since his early days at Manchester, and I always thought, ‘Wow, what an incredible player,’” Flick said. “His speed, ability in one-on-one duels, and clinical finishing are outstanding. In just a few weeks here, he has shown glimpses of his quality, and there’s much more to come.”
Rashford, who is looking to revive his career in Spain after falling out of favor at Old Trafford, is yet to score for Barcelona but recently assisted Raphinha in their 6-0 thrashing of Valencia. He also found the net for England in a 5-0 victory over Serbia during the international break.
“Marcus wants to prove himself, and I’m glad to have him in my squad,” Flick added.
Barcelona, who suffered a heartbreaking 7-6 aggregate defeat to Inter Milan in last season’s semi-finals, have not lifted the Champions League trophy in ten years. Along with Yamal, the Catalans will also be without Alejandro Balde and Gavi for the trip to St. James’ Park.
