Chairman of the South-South Caucus of the House of Representatives, Hon. Fred Agbedi, has clarified why former Rivers State Governor, Chief Nyesom Wike, was not sanctioned during the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting in Abuja on Monday.

According to Agbedi, Wike is not the only PDP member guilty of anti-party activities, as some party leaders are still openly supporting the incumbent government.

He noted that while internal conflicts and disloyalty remain challenges, the PDP has chosen to prioritise rebuilding its structure and restoring unity instead of pursuing sanctions at this stage.

“It’s not about Wike alone. There are many others who have played anti-party roles in one way or the other. Some openly declare support for candidates outside the PDP—that’s clearly anti-party. But the PDP understands the crisis it is facing and is working to resolve it. The party will first organise itself before taking decisive action,” Agbedi explained.

He added that the PDP is taking note of individuals undermining the party but stressed that the leadership is focused on laying a solid foundation that will ensure the survival and strength of the opposition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

“As of today, I don’t think the priority of PDP is to drive anyone out of the party. At the appropriate time, the right actions will be taken,” he assured.

Agbedi expressed optimism that the PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, will emerge stronger, more united, and better positioned for victory in 2027.
