Manchester United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Carlos Baleba, with reports claiming the 21-year-old has approved a potential move to Old Trafford.
The Cameroon international emerged as one of Brighton’s standout performers during the 2024/25 Premier League season, making 34 league appearances and contributing four goals and assists combined. Known for his strong defensive presence and aerial ability, Baleba has become a key figure in Brighton’s midfield since joining from Lille in August 2023.
United Step Up Interest
According to Fabrizio Romano via The Standard, Baleba has given the green light to a move that would end his two-year spell on the South Coast. Manchester United are now preparing a second bid after their initial approach was rejected.
Their first offer reportedly included academy midfielder Toby Collyer as part of the deal, but Brighton — who value Baleba at around £105 million — are reluctant to sell.
Midfield Reinforcement a Priority
Following a disappointing league finish last season, United have moved quickly to strengthen their squad, already investing over £200 million in attacking signings including Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo, and Benjamin Sesko.
With Casemiro’s influence in midfield waning, Baleba is seen as a long-term solution to reinforce the Red Devils’ engine room and provide defensive stability.
Whether Manchester United can meet Brighton’s asking price remains to be seen, but Baleba’s willingness to join could prove decisive in negotiations
