Grammy award-winning rapper Belcalis Marlenis Almanzar Cephus, popularly known as Cardi B, has been exonerated of assault allegations in a high-profile $24 million civil lawsuit after a Los Angeles jury ruled in her favor on Tuesday, September 2, 2025.

The case was initiated by Emani Ellis, a former security guard, who alleged that Cardi B attacked her in 2018 outside a Beverly Hills obstetrician’s office. Ellis claimed the rapper—who was pregnant at the time—scratched her face, spat on her, and used racial slurs during the confrontation.

Cardi B, however, vehemently denied the accusations, testifying that while she was upset over being secretly recorded during a private medical visit, the encounter never turned physical.

Her testimony was supported by a clinic receptionist and a doctor who were present, both of whom told the jury they witnessed no physical altercation.

After less than an hour of deliberation, the jury delivered a unanimous verdict clearing Cardi B, effectively dismissing the claims.

Speaking outside the courthouse, Cardi B expressed relief and reaffirmed her innocence:
“Even if I’m on my deathbed, I will say it never happened. I will never admit to something I did not do.”
