August 6, 2025 – Nigerian clubs participating in CAF’s continental tournaments will learn their preliminary round opponents this weekend as the Confederation of African Football (CAF) conducts draws for the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup.

The official draw ceremony is scheduled for Saturday in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania, and will begin at 1:00 pm local time, according to CAF.

In the CAF Champions League, Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) champions Remo Stars and Rivers United will represent the country, aiming to advance to the lucrative group stage. Meanwhile, Federation Cup winners Kwara United and Abia Warriors will compete in the CAF Confederation Cup, Africa’s second-tier club competition.

CAF also released the official competition timeline:

  • Preliminary Round: Kicks off Friday, 19 September 2025
  • Second Preliminary Round: Begins Friday, 17 October 2025
  • Group Stage: Starts Friday, 21 November 2025
  • Knockout Stage: Commences Friday, 13 March 2026

The draws will determine the path to the group stages, where clubs will compete for continental glory and a share of CAF’s multi-million-dollar prize pool. Nigerian clubs are hoping for favorable pairings as they aim to surpass last season’s performance and strengthen the country’s standing in African football.
