By-Election: Julius Abure Accuses Peter Obi of Desperation, Says He Lacks Capacity to Lead Nigeria

Factional National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP), Julius Abure, has launched a scathing attack on the party’s 2023 presidential candidate, Peter Obi, accusing him of being “too desperate” to become Nigeria’s president.
In a statement personally signed on Thursday, Abure alleged that Obi was responsible for the ongoing crisis in the Labour Party, claiming the former Anambra State governor’s quest to “control the soul of the party” had driven him to extreme actions.
According to Abure, Obi enjoyed immense goodwill from the party’s leadership but “repaid them with betrayal,” adding that the LP standard-bearer in the last election lacked the competence, character, and capacity to deliver on the vision of a new Nigeria.
“This is why we have maintained that Peter Obi lacks the competence, character and capacity to actualise the vision of a new Nigeria,” Abure said. “Nigerians should not forget in a hurry that it was Peter Obi who created the crisis in the Labour Party which he now cites as the reason people should not vote for the party.”
Abure’s remarks came in response to Obi’s recent directive to his supporters ahead of the August 16 by-elections across the country. Obi had urged them to back the candidates of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in the polls, rather than those of the Labour Party.
