The Nigerian national football team, the Super Eagles, has been stranded at a Libyan airport following the unexpected diversion of their flight by Libyan authorities. The team, en route to Benghazi for their crucial Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying match, now faces a road journey of over three hours to reach the venue.
The Nigerian football team, including players and coaching staff, were left in limbo after their flight to Benghazi was rerouted. According to reports from a popular Nigerian football platform, the team will now undertake a 3-hour 24-minute road trip to the match venue.
This incident might be linked to the experience the Libyan national team faced during their visit to Nigeria last week for the first leg of the AFCON qualifiers. Libyan media reported that the Libyan squad was subjected to poor treatment upon arrival in Lagos, where they were held at the airport for more than three hours.
Photos surfaced online showing the Libyan players sitting on the floor at Lagos airport after a long journey from Tripoli. The team had landed in Lagos before traveling to Uyo for the match, a route reportedly plagued by delays and challenging conditions. The Libyan side had to navigate through forested areas for over 200 kilometers after a three-hour wait for transportation.
This latest development could cast a shadow over the return fixture, with tensions already high following the difficulties both teams have faced in recent days.
