The Nigeria Police Force has issued a sweeping directive recalling all mobile police personnel attached to prominent Nigerian figures, following President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s instruction that VIP security details be withdrawn nationwide.

The order, released by the 50 PMF Squadron in Kubwa, Abuja, mandates all officers deployed to VIP protection duties to return to base by 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 27, 2025.

The memo, referenced AB:4087/FCT/50PMF/VOL.10/ and signed by CSP Suleiman Abdullahi, affects officers attached to 20 high-profile personalities, including former Vice Presidents Atiku Abubakar and Namadi Sambo, FCT Minister Nyesom Wike, former First Lady Aisha Buhari, Chief Justice of Nigeria Justice Kudirat Olatokunbo Kekere-Ekun, and the Olu of Warri, His Majesty Ogiame Atuwatse III.

The memo dated November 26 lists the affected VIPs as follows:
Chief Judge of Nigeria, Nyesom Wike, Namadi Sambo, Minister of State for Labour, Atiku Abubakar, Senator Tanko Al-Makura, APC Women Leader, Alhaji Kamba, Olu of Warri, Ngozi Iweala, Senator Ahmed Lawan, Hon. Khalifa Abdul, Hon. Yusuf Gagdi, Dr. Ramatu Tijjani, Hon. Vetra, Hon. Moses Ternege, MD Barelco, Engineer Okeke, Aisha Buhari, and Hon. Ibrahim Massari.

This development comes after President Tinubu, during a high-level security meeting on Sunday, ordered all police officers assigned to VIP protection nationwide to be withdrawn and redeployed to regular policing duties, especially in underserved areas.

Under the new directive, VIPs who require armed escorts must now apply for personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC).

Earlier reports confirm that police formations across the country have already begun compliance. A memo from SPU Base 16 in Lagos, signed by Commanding Officer Neji Veronica, instructed all officers attached to VIPs to return to base immediately, warning that attendance for a mandatory lecture parade would be strictly taken.

The move is part of the Federal Government’s strategy to reinforce policing capacity and address growing security gaps across the country.
