A devastating tanker explosion in Zaria, Kaduna State, has left multiple people dead and several others injured, eyewitnesses report.
The tragic incident occurred at about 8:30 a.m. on Monday near Rochas Foundation School along the Kaduna–Kano expressway bypass, from Kwangila to Dan Magaji. According to eyewitness accounts shared by security analyst Zagazola Makama on X, the accident involved two fuel-laden tankers and two passenger-filled Volkswagen Golf cars.
The collision triggered five powerful explosions, sending a massive fireball and thick black smoke into the air, engulfing the busy highway.
“All the occupants of the cars died instantly, except one driver who survived but suffered severe burns,” an eyewitness said.
Emergency responders and security agencies have cordoned off the area, urging motorists to avoid the route as rescue and recovery operations continue.
Authorities are yet to release an official casualty figure, but the death toll is expected to rise.
