In a significant political development, the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has appointed the current Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Social Development, Dr. Yilwatda Nentawe, as the new National Chairman of the ruling party.

The announcement was made during the 14th NEC meeting of the APC, held at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja on Thursday. The motion for Nentawe’s appointment was moved by Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, who also serves as the Chairman of the Progressive Governors’ Forum. It was swiftly seconded by the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Tajudeen Abbas.

Shortly after the endorsement, Nentawe was officially sworn in at 2:50 PM in the presence of key party leaders and stakeholders. The swearing-in ceremony took place during the high-level party gathering, signaling a new leadership phase for the APC.

Dr. Nentawe, a seasoned technocrat and politician from Plateau State in the North Central region, was the party’s governorship candidate during the 2023 general elections. His emergence as national chairman comes at a time when the APC is focusing on consolidating internal unity and preparing for future electoral contests.

More updates to follow as the NEC meeting continues.
