Fear has spread across Makeke community in the Ososo Zone of Akoko-Edo Local Government Area of Edo State following the reported abduction of four persons, including a nurse, from a local health centre.
The incident reportedly took place at about 8:00 p.m. on Sunday at the Makeke Maternity/Health Centre, where armed men invaded the facility and forcefully took away the nurse on duty alongside three other individuals.
A resident of the community confirmed the development, expressing deep worry over the worsening security situation in the area. According to the resident, the victims were seized and whisked away by the attackers, leaving the community in shock and fear.
Makeke is located within Akoko-Edo, a border area linking Edo State with Kogi and Ondo states—regions frequently associated with kidnapping incidents. Security observers note that criminals often exploit the difficult terrain and porous borders of these communities to carry out attacks and escape law enforcement.
As of the time of filing this report, efforts to reach the spokesperson of the Edo State Police Command, ASP Eno Nkereuwem Ikoedem, were unsuccessful, as calls and messages were not returned.
Residents are calling for urgent security intervention to prevent further attacks and secure the release of the abducted victims.
