Ghanaian law-enforcement authorities have apprehended a Nigerian national linked to the brutal killing of a Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) officer and her daughter in Ogun State.
According to George Ohene-Boadi, the Regional Commander of the Eastern South Regional Police Command, 36-year-old Victor Benjamin Fajemirokun escaped to Ghana in an attempt to evade arrest by Nigerian security operatives.
Ohene-Boadi explained that the arrest was initiated shortly after a viral video alleged that Fajemirokun abducted and murdered Lasisi Funmilayo, an FRSC official, and her daughter, Sewa, in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
“The suspect fled Nigeria and took refuge with friends in Ghana. After receiving intelligence on his hideout in Akutia, our team launched a swift, intelligence-driven operation that led to his arrest,”
— Ohene-Boadi said.
He confirmed that the suspect is now in custody while processes are ongoing for his handover to Nigerian authorities.
Funmilayo and her daughter were last seen travelling with Fajemirokun to Osun State on 2 November. Nigerian investigators later linked the case to a group allegedly involving a self-proclaimed herbalist.
Following an analysis of phone records connected to the suspect, police launched a manhunt for the herbalist, arresting two additional suspects in coordinated operations across Osun and Ekiti States.
Police insiders revealed that crucial information from the suspects led officers to the location where the victims’ remains were recovered in a remote bush area.
Ghanaian authorities say they are working closely with Nigerian police to ensure the case reaches a swift and conclusive end.
