Story: Written by Daniel February 8,2026

Panic gripped Koro community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State on Tuesday following a renewed bandit attack that reportedly left at least one person dead.
Residents confirmed that armed assailants stormed the area, forcing many locals to flee their homes for safety. While one fatality has been confirmed, the exact number of casualties remains uncertain as details are still unfolding.
Security agencies are yet to issue an official statement on the incident. Koro’s proximity to Egbe in Yagba West Local Government Area of neighbouring Kogi State has heightened fears of possible spillover attacks into surrounding communities.
Authorities and community leaders have urged residents to steer clear of the area and remain on high alert as the situation develops. More updates are expected as investigations continue.
Background: Rising Insecurity in Kwara
The latest attack comes amid growing security concerns in Kwara State. On February 3–4, 2026, terrorists invaded Woro and Nuku villages in Kaiama Local Government Area, unleashing deadly assaults involving shootings, arson, and kidnappings.
Those attacks reportedly claimed at least 162 lives, injured over 50 people, and led to the abduction of 38 others, with entire communities razed. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu condemned the violence and ordered the deployment of an army battalion to the state.
Survivors described harrowing scenes of gunfire and burning homes, leaving families displaced and communities shattered.
