Breaking: Dangote Refinery Terminates All Nigerian Workers Hours After Joining PENGASSAN

Story: written by Uzuh Rita September 26,2025
The management of Dangote Petroleum Refinery has dismissed all its Nigerian workers, less than 24 hours after the majority of them joined the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).
The shocking development was revealed in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter) on Wednesday by political commentator Imran Wakili.
According to Wakili, over 90 percent of the refinery’s Nigerian workforce had joined PENGASSAN before their sudden termination.
A memo dated September 25, 2025, signed by Femi Adekunle, Chief General Manager of Human Asset Management, and circulated online, confirmed the mass sack. The document stated that the decision was part of a “total reorganisation” of the refinery, citing reported cases of sabotage in various units.
The notice instructed the affected staff to immediately return all company property in their possession to their line managers and secure official clearance. The finance department was also directed to compute outstanding benefits and entitlements for settlement in line with contractual agreements.
While thanking the dismissed employees for their service, the refinery’s management maintained that the reorganisation was necessary to protect the integrity of operations.
This move has intensified the ongoing industrial tension between Dangote Refinery and PENGASSAN over unionisation rights, raising fresh concerns about labour relations in Nigeria’s oil and gas sector.
