The Borno State Police Command has confirmed the rescue of one girl after suspected insurgents abducted 14 girls in Askira/Uba Local Government Area, while a coordinated search continues to locate the remaining 13.
According to a statement issued on Sunday in Maiduguri by the Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the girls were seized on November 22 at around 3:30 p.m. while working on farmland in Mussa District.
The police said the abduction was reported by the District Head of Huyum, prompting a rapid response from a joint team of police, Nigerian military, Civilian JTF, and local vigilantes. During the operation, one of the abducted girls managed to escape and was safely rescued.
“Search-and-rescue operations are ongoing to ensure the safe recovery of the remaining 13 girls,” the statement added.
Commissioner of Police Naziru Abdulmajid urged residents to remain vigilant and cooperate fully with security personnel. He also advised farmers and rural communities to operate within security patrol coverage and maintain caution.
“Further updates will be communicated as the operation progresses,” he said.
