Bishop T.D. Jakes Suffers Medical Emergency During Sunday Sermon, Church Confirms Stable Condition

Bishop Thomas Dexter (T.D.) Jakes, the celebrated American preacher, author, and motivational speaker, suffered a medical emergency on Sunday while delivering a sermon at The Potter’s House in Dallas, Texas. The incident temporarily halted church services, sparking widespread concern among his congregation and followers worldwide.
Video footage from the service captured the revered pastor lowering his microphone and appearing visibly distressed before those nearby rushed to assist him. In a statement issued shortly after, The Potter’s House confirmed that Bishop Jakes had experienced a “slight health incident” and was promptly attended to by medical professionals.
“Bishop Jakes is stable and under the care of medical professionals,” the church shared. “The entire Potter’s House family is grateful for the outpouring of love, prayers, and support from the community.”
The 67-year-old bishop had just completed an impassioned sermon, reflecting on his enduring love for preaching and its reciprocal blessings.
“I still love to preach. I ain’t tired of preaching,” Jakes told the congregation, adding, “Have you ever gone to a hospital to visit somebody, thinking you were going to encourage them, but they end up encouraging you? That’s what preaching is like—you give out something, but you get back more than you gave.”
The sermon reached a solemn and emotional moment when Jakes quoted Psalm 19:14:
“Let the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord, my strength, my redeemer, let them go in peace,” he declared before abruptly falling silent.
Moments later, he appeared to spasm slightly while seated and gazing distantly. Concerned congregants and staff quickly surrounded him, as an usher called for the audience to join in prayer.
