Big Mistake’ – Rio Ferdinand Criticises Man United for Missing Out on Osimhen

Former Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand has slammed the club over its recent transfer decisions, arguing that failing to sign Victor Osimhen last summer was a major error, as United’s struggles continue with a 1-1 draw against Leeds United over the weekend.

The match at Elland Road saw Brenden Aaronson put Leeds ahead before Matheus Cunha equalized, earning praise from manager Ruben Amorim. United, meanwhile, have won only once in their last seven games, now sitting three points outside the Champions League spots and 17 points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

Striker Benjamin Sesko, who joined for £74 million, played the full match but remains goalless in 11 games, scoring just two goals in 17 appearances for the Red Devils this season.

Ferdinand believes United should have secured Osimhen, who moved to Galatasaray for £65 million and has already netted 12 goals in 16 games this season. He also criticised the club for selling Danny Welbeck to Arsenal in 2019, noting that at 35, Welbeck is thriving at Brighton with eight goals this season.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Ferdinand said:

“I couldn’t believe we let Danny Welbeck go. He’s proving himself at Brighton. And we really should have signed Victor Osimhen — no doubts, pure experience. Sesko isn’t getting enough of the ball, and that’s a big problem.”

Manchester United will look to return to winning ways when they face Burnley at Turf Moor on Wednesday.
