The Benue State Police Command has taken two individuals into custody after they were allegedly found with human body parts.
State Commissioner of Police, Emenari Ifeanyi, made this known during a press briefing in Makurdi. He said the suspects were apprehended on October 22 in Okpokwu Local Government Area by the Benue State Civil Protection Guards, who later transferred them to the police.
According to him, the suspects were discovered with human remains, including a head, lap, and heart. After investigations, they have since been arraigned in court.
Providing a broader update on security operations, Ifeanyi disclosed that from mid-September to the end of October, the command arrested 181 suspects linked to different criminal activities.
During that period, the state recorded 14 homicide cases, 12 armed robberies, four kidnappings, 16 banditry or terrorism-related incidents, and three cult cases.
Police operations also led to the recovery of 15 firearms, 67 rounds of ammunition, three stolen vehicles, and the rescue of 23 kidnapped victims.
The Commissioner highlighted that ongoing clearance operations in the Sankera area — covering Katsina-Ala, Ukum, and Logo LGAs — resulted in the arrest of over 70 suspected bandits, the destruction of criminal camps, and the safe return of displaced residents to their homes and farms.
He added that raids in Otukpo and Ohimini LGAs on October 25 led to the arrest of 39 suspected armed robbers believed to be involved in previous attacks on security personnel.
Ifeanyi also announced the promotion of 445 officers and praised the cooperation between the police, Operation Whirl Stroke, and the Benue State Civil Protection Guards in maintaining law and order.
