Benue Governor Alia Praised for Fiscal Discipline, Hasn’t Taken Any Loan Since Assuming Office – BSEMA Boss

The Executive Secretary of the Benue State Emergency Management Agency (BSEMA), Dr. James Iorpuu, has commended Governor Hyacinth Alia for what he described as an outstanding demonstration of fiscal responsibility and transparency in governance.

Speaking to journalists in Makurdi, Dr. Iorpuu revealed that since taking office, Governor Alia has not borrowed a single kobo from any financial institution — a milestone he said underscores prudent economic management and focused leadership.

“Governor Alia’s decision not to borrow funds since assuming office shows visionary leadership, discipline, and accountability in managing Benue State’s finances,” Dr. Iorpuu stated.

He explained that the governor’s approach to governance has strengthened public trust in the administration, noting that strategic financial management has enabled the state to invest in key development projects without adding to its debt profile.

Dr. Iorpuu, who also serves as the Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, emphasized that the Alia-led administration has redirected resources towards infrastructure, welfare, and emergency response initiatives that directly benefit citizens.

Reacting to a recent report by an independent assessor which rated the administration’s performance as average, the BSEMA boss dismissed the evaluation as inaccurate, insisting that Governor Alia’s achievements far exceed expectations.

“The governor’s record speaks for itself. His prudent handling of resources and focus on development have brought renewed confidence in Benue’s governance,” he added.
