During the inauguration in Bauchi, Deputy Governor Auwal Jatau warned that cholera remains a severe public health emergency requiring immediate and coordinated action.
He explained that the committee was established to strengthen disease surveillance, improve early detection, and ensure rapid response to new cases.
“Cholera can be prevented if we act promptly, strengthen collaboration, and improve access to clean water, sanitation, and hygiene,” Jatau stated.
The deputy governor said members were carefully selected for their expertise and urged them to approach the assignment with dedication. He also pledged the government’s full backing to ensure effective implementation, while calling on health partners to support the effort.
The state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Sani Dambam, who chairs the technical committee, reaffirmed that the team will work collectively to achieve its mandate of curbing the outbreak and preventing further deaths.
With cholera spreading rapidly in several communities, officials say the taskforce will serve as a coordinated hub for intervention, awareness, and long-term solutions to recurring outbreaks in Bauchi State.
