The Chairman of Faruruwa in Shanono Local Government, Kano State, Yahya Bagobiri, has raised fresh alarm over escalating bandit attacks in his community, despite the deployment of military and security personnel.
The latest assault occurred overnight on Sunday when armed bandits on motorcycles raided Yan Kwada village in Faruruwa, abducting five nursing mothers and seizing 50 cows along with other livestock. The attack sent residents fleeing in panic, leaving the area in chaos.
Bagobiri lamented that daily attacks continue despite security presence over the past three weeks. “Even though we alerted security forces ahead of the raid, nothing was done, and by 9 p.m., the bandits had stormed houses and abducted the nursing mothers,” he said.
He added that one of the kidnapped mothers managed to escape, leaving four still in captivity. The bandits reportedly discarded the babies during the abduction, leaving the infants crying and vulnerable.
The Chairman of the Community Security Forum of Faruruwa has appealed to President Tinubu, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, and top security officials to intervene urgently. He praised the previous military deployment but stressed the need for reinforcement to curb the attacks and restore safety to the community.
The appeal follows a recent military engagement with bandits two weeks ago, which resulted in the death of 19 bandits and two soldiers.
