Armed bandits have abducted 23 women in Moriki town, located in Zurmi Local Government Area of Zamfara State, in a fresh wave of attacks highlighting the region’s worsening insecurity.

According to security analyst Zagazola Makama, who reported the incident via X on Sunday, the mass abduction occurred around 1:30 p.m. on Friday, August 2, 2025.

Security sources confirmed that the victims, all residents of Moriki, were ambushed by gunmen in the bush while fetching firewood on the outskirts of the community. The assailants reportedly whisked the women away to an undisclosed location.

In response, troops of Operation FANSAN YANMA, supported by local vigilantes and other security agencies, launched an intensive search-and-rescue mission to locate the abducted women and track the attackers.

Authorities assured that efforts are ongoing to secure the victims’ release and to apprehend the bandits responsible for the attack.

This latest abduction underscores the persistent security challenges facing Zamfara State, where banditry and mass kidnappings have continued to disrupt daily life in rural communities.
