Daura, Katsina State — July 16, 2025 – Prominent Nigerian political figures, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate Peter Obi, and former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, visited the family of late President Muhammadu Buhari in Daura on Wednesday to offer prayers and condolences.
This marks the first major condolence visit to the late President’s gravesite following his burial on Tuesday. Members of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), led by Atiku, also participated in special prayers at the graveside as part of their tribute to the former Nigerian leader.
Peter Obi, who was notably absent from Tuesday’s burial ceremony, arrived in Katsina around 11 a.m. and was received by Governor Dikko Radda at the Government House before proceeding to Daura. According to a post from the Obidient movement on social media, Obi paid a personal condolence visit to Buhari’s family and joined them in prayers for the late President’s soul.
While Obi did not provide a reason for missing the funeral, his presence in Daura on Wednesday was seen as a significant gesture of respect.
Other notable figures at the burial included former Transportation Minister Rotimi Amaechi and Nasir El-Rufai, a staunch ally of the late Buhari and key member of the All Progressives Congress (APC). The gathering of leaders from different political affiliations underscored Buhari’s national impact and legacy.
The late President Muhammadu Buhari, who led Nigeria from 2015 to 2023, was laid to rest in his hometown of Daura, Katsina State, in accordance with Islamic rites.
The condolence visits are expected to continue in the coming days as the nation mourns one of its most influential post-military leaders.
