In a bold political move ahead of the 2027 general elections, a coalition of opposition leaders including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, ex-Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, and former Rivers State Governor Rotimi Amaechi has submitted a formal application to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) seeking registration of a new political party – the All Democratic Alliance (ADA).

The coalition, operating under the banner of the National Opposition Coalition Group, submitted the application dated June 19, which was officially acknowledged by INEC on Friday. The proposed party, ADA, aims to provide a viable political alternative to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu in the next presidential election.

Also backing the initiative is Dr. Umar Ardo, convener of the League of Northern Democrats and a former aide to ex-President Olusegun Obasanjo. The move signifies rising political realignments and growing public dissatisfaction with the current administration, which the coalition hopes to leverage.

INEC had recently issued a stern warning, emphasizing that only full compliance with constitutional and electoral procedures would guarantee party registration, regardless of public pressure or political stature.

The registration letter submitted to INEC was jointly signed by the coalition’s Protem National Chairman, Chief Akin A. Rickets, and Protem National Secretary, Abdullahi Elayo.

The letter stated:

“We respectfully write to the Independent National Electoral Commission, requesting the registration of our association, the All Democratic Alliance, as a political party.
This is a sequel to the decision taken by the Nigerian National Coalition Group to sponsor our association for full registration.”

The coalition also presented key documents to INEC, including ADA’s party constitution, manifesto, logo, and minutes of foundational meetings. According to the submission, the party’s slogan is “Justice for All”, while its symbol is a maize (corn) — chosen to represent abundance, resilience, and sustenance.

The letter further explained:

“We have attached our manifesto, detailing our party ideology, and our constitution, which outlines the legal framework defining our identity, organizational structure, and operational strategy.”

With heavyweight political figures and a unifying national agenda, ADA is positioning itself as a credible force in Nigeria’s evolving political landscape.
