Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has strongly criticized the Federal Government over the killing of Brigadier-General Musa and troops under his command, describing the tragedy as a clear failure of leadership.
Atiku faulted the military hierarchy for what he called an inconsistent and unclear account of the circumstances surrounding the general’s death, noting that earlier official statements appeared to deny key details of the incident.
He stressed that Gen. Musa’s death — alongside the loss of his men — represents “one death too many,” warning that Nigeria is witnessing a dangerous resurgence of terrorist activities due to poor government action.
Atiku accused President Bola Tinubu of focusing more on political battles than on his duties as Commander-in-Chief, insisting that the nation’s security demands urgent and competent leadership.
He urged both citizens and military personnel to stay firm, assuring them that “even this season shall pass away.”
Directing a stern message to President Tinubu, Atiku said the security of Nigerians must be treated as the government’s primary responsibility.
“You must live up to it or be humble enough to admit incompetence and either ask for help or resign,” he declared.
Atiku added that if he were president, he would order the military to take full control of Borno State — or any region under heavy assault — until terrorists and armed groups are completely cleared out.
He extended heartfelt condolences to the Nigerian Armed Forces, the family of Brig-Gen Musa, and all Nigerians mourning the tragedy, expressing hope that the country will overcome its current security challenges
