Atalanta Captain De Roon Says Lookman Could Return If Attitude Improves

Atalanta skipper Marten de Roon has suggested that Nigerian forward Ademola Lookman still has a path back into the squad — but only if he adjusts his mindset.
Lookman has been sidelined from first-team activities after attempting to engineer a move to Inter Milan during the summer transfer window. Since returning to Italy, the winger has been training separately from the main group following a period where he was reported absent without leave.
The 26-year-old was excluded from Atalanta’s squad for their Serie A clash against Lecce on Sunday and was also not included in the traveling party for Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League encounter with Paris Saint-Germain.
Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, De Roon said the squad remains focused on the players currently available but emphasized that Lookman would be welcomed back if he makes the right changes.
“I haven’t spoken to him directly because I don’t want to waste too much energy on the situation,” De Roon explained. “We’re focused on the team and those who are here, but the door is always open.”
Lookman’s future at the Bergamo club remains uncertain, but De Roon’s comments hint that reconciliation is still possible.
