Abuja, Nigeria – June 28, 2025:
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has announced the resignation of its National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, paving the way for Ali Bukar Dalori to assume the role of Acting Chairman.
Ganduje, who took over the leadership of the ruling party in August 2023 after the resignation of Abdullahi Adamu, officially stepped down on Thursday. According to a statement released by APC National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, the former Kano State Governor resigned to “attend to urgent and important personal matters.”
“In his letter of resignation addressed to the National Working Committee (NWC) via the National Secretary, Senator Ajibola Basiru, Ganduje expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the privilege to lead the APC at the highest level,” Morka stated.
President Tinubu has directed Dalori, the Deputy National Chairman (North), to take over as Acting National Chairman. A meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) is expected soon to formally ratify the leadership transition and appoint a substantive chairman.
Ganduje, a two-term governor of Kano State (2015–2023), had faced growing criticism over his appointment, with party members questioning the breach of APC’s zoning formula. His leadership was seen as controversial by some factions within the party.
In January 2025, President Tinubu appointed Ganduje as Chairman of the Board of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), and he has also been linked to a possible non-career ambassadorial appointment.
Dalori’s emergence as acting chairman is expected to restore internal balance and calm ongoing tensions within the APC’s national leadership structure.
