A two-storey building collapsed on Wednesday evening at No. 4 Modupeola Street, near Mangoro Bus Stop in the Alimosho area of Lagos State, leaving one person injured and several others rescued.

The incident, which occurred around 6 p.m., trapped a 44-year-old male resident beneath the rubble, while five other occupants were safely evacuated by emergency responders. The immediate cause of the collapse has yet to be determined.

Officials of the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) led rescue operations in collaboration with other first responders. Eyewitness videos shared on social media showed rescue workers clearing debris as residents gathered at the scene.

The trapped victim, identified as a resident of Olabode Street, sustained multiple fractures and bruises before being pulled out of the debris. He was rushed by the Lagos State Ambulance Service to the Surgical Emergency Unit of the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH), where he was confirmed to be in stable condition.

Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Gbenga Omotoso, confirmed that the rescued victim was receiving further treatment at LASUTH. “The five others rescued were taken to a private hospital in the community. The man brought to LASUTH arrived in stable condition and is being closely monitored,” Omotoso stated.

The Lagos State Government has since directed a comprehensive investigation into the collapse to establish its cause and forestall future tragedies.
