The Anambra State Government has announced plans to construct a second airport in Ndikelionwu, Orumba North Local Government Area, as part of its vision to boost economic growth and industrialization.

During a tour of the proposed site, Engr. Martins Emeka Nwafor, Managing Director of Chinua Achebe International Cargo Airport and Chairman of the Airport and Aerotropolis Committee, said the project aims to develop not just an airport but also an industrial park and aerotropolis.

Nwafor described the initiative as a game changer, noting that the integration of aviation infrastructure with residential, commercial, and logistics facilities would create an airport-driven city, unlocking new investment opportunities and enhancing the state’s economy.

“Having multiple airports in the state will accelerate industrialisation and overall development,” he said.

Community leaders, including Hon. Fabian Nwosu, former President-General of Ndikelionwu Welfare Association, and Hon. Ifesinachi Chukwurah Onwurah, Vice President of Ndikelionwu, welcomed the project, pledging full support and cooperation to ensure its success. They highlighted the job creation potential and long-term benefits for local residents.

The delegation at the site inspection included:

  • Prof. Charles O. Ofoegbu, MD/CEO of Anambra State Solid Minerals Development Company Limited
  • Retired Air Vice Marshal Ben Chiobi, Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Security
  • Mr. Chukwudi Ezenwa, architect and founder of Sliding Towers
  • Traditional rulers, community elders, and technical experts from the Solid Minerals Development Company

Geologists and geophysicists also conducted geomapping of the site to assess its suitability for the project.

The new airport project is expected to attract investments, create thousands of jobs, and transform Ndikelionwu into a hub of industrial and economic activities in Anambra State.
