The police revealed that the suspect allegedly sexually assaulted the victim’s elder sister before proceeding to kill the teenage boy in an attempt to silence witnesses and flee the scene.
According to a press release issued on Friday, April 18, 2025, by the command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, the shocking incident occurred on April 15, 2025, and was brought to light through swift community collaboration and police action.
“The Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, commends the residents of Nnewi for their support in ensuring the immediate arrest of the suspect. Their vigilance has been critical in cracking this heinous crime,” the statement read.
Suspect Transferred to State CID as Investigation Intensifies
In response to the gravity of the crime, CP Orutugu has ordered the immediate transfer of the case to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) in Awka for thorough investigation.
