The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a 26-year-old man, Ugochukwu Uzor, allegedly linked to the abduction and murder of Anambra lawmaker, Hon. Justice Azuka.
Hon. Azuka was kidnapped on Christmas Eve last year while on holiday in Onitsha and was later discovered dead in February beneath the Second Niger Bridge, despite claims that ransom had been paid.
In a statement issued by the police spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, authorities confirmed that Uzor confessed to participating in both the kidnapping and killing of the legislator. Police also revealed that the suspect has a long record of violent criminal activity.
According to the statement, Uzor bears large tattoos reading “No Forgiveness” and “No Mercy,” believed to reflect his hardened criminal disposition. He also admitted to leading multiple criminal gangs operating within Anambra and neighbouring states.
Detailing his arrest, the police explained that operatives of the Rapid Response Squad in Awkuzu apprehended Uzor during an intense operation in Ogbaru Local Government Area on December 8, 2025. He was caught in Iyiowa Odekpe after engaging officers in a violent confrontation.
Recovered from the suspect were a locally fabricated Beretta pistol and eleven rounds of live ammunition.
The command described the arrest as a major breakthrough in the fight against violent crime, adding that Uzor’s detention would support ongoing efforts to dismantle criminal networks across the state.
