Anambra Election: I back Labour Party, but every candidate is my friend — Peter Obi
Story: written by Joseph November 6,2025
Former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has stated that although he is firmly a member of the Labour Party and supports its governorship flagbearer, his priority is ensuring that the November 8 poll is transparent and credible.
Speaking to journalists in Agulu, Anaocha Local Government Area, on Wednesday, the 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate said his loyalty to the party does not translate to desperate politics.
Obi noted that he maintains cordial relationships with all the aspirants, urging them to place the future of Anambra State above their individual ambitions.
“For this election, I am a member of the Labour Party and I will support our candidate,” he said. “But I will not be part of vote buying or any wrongdoing. All the contestants are my friends, and I want a free, fair, and peaceful election. I am not on the ballot, so let Anambra people freely choose who they want as governor.”
He insisted that he bears no grudge against any candidate and warned supporters against election malpractice.
Obi recalled that he left office 12 years ago at the age of 42 and has no personal stake in the contest, stressing again that fairness and the will of the people must prevail.
