Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu, the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the recently concluded Anambra election, has rejected the victory of APGA candidate, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo.
Addressing reporters in Awka, Ukachukwu alleged that the poll was marred by violence, harassment, and intimidation targeted at his supporters, many of whom he claimed suffered injuries and the destruction of property.
He said consultations are ongoing with his supporters, party officials, and agents across the state before he makes a definitive statement on the next line of action.
His words:
“We thank our team members. They are all gallant soldiers and winners in their own right — even those who were threatened, had their cars burnt, their houses destroyed. Even my deputy had to run for safety after being threatened. All these people are winners.”
Ukachukwu claimed that APC agents were abducted during the election, while a supporter assigned to pay party agents was arrested and accused of carrying money to buy votes.
He argued:
“How can I buy votes against a sitting governor with full control of state resources? The results clearly reveal who bought votes. If I was buying votes, it would have shown in my numbers.”
He accused opponents of orchestrating attacks against APC members, including burning the home of a female supporter in Anambra East for openly backing the party.
Despite the alleged intimidation, Ukachukwu said securing 99,000 votes was a strong statement about the growing strength of the APC in Anambra.
“These 99,000 people are the true believers in a better Anambra. They will be part of the consultation on what happens next. The result proves APC can no longer be ignored in this state.”
He emphasized that a final decision will be announced after consultations and full reports from party agents are completed.
