Anambra 2025: Ohanaeze Urges Soludo, Ekwunife, Ukachukwu to End Toxic Campaign Rhetoric

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo, apex Igbo socio-cultural body, has cautioned candidates in the upcoming Anambra governorship election to desist from what it described as “divisive, uncultured, and shameful politicking.”
With the November 9, 2025 polls drawing closer, the group warned that the ongoing trend of insults, propaganda, and hate speech by key contenders is damaging both to the state and to the wider image of the Igbo people.
In a statement jointly signed by its Deputy President-General, Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, and National Spokesperson, Chief Thompson Ohia, Ohanaeze said it was disturbed by the actions of major candidates, including Governor Chukwuma Soludo of APGA, his wife Nnonye Soludo, APC candidate Nicholas Ukachukwu, and his running mate Senator Uche Ekwunife.
The statement read in part:
“This descent into vulgarities and character assassination demeans the dignity of the Igbo nation. Leaders of Anambra should elevate the tone of their campaigns rather than resort to cheap insults and propaganda.”
Ohanaeze accused Governor Soludo of fueling slanderous narratives against his opponents and described the public exchanges between Mrs. Soludo and Senator Ekwunife as “an embarrassment to womanhood and motherhood.”
The group stressed that it remains politically neutral and will not endorse any candidate. However, it warned that if the named politicians continue with what it called “dishonourable campaign tactics,” it may be forced to review its stance.
“The reckless use of propaganda and hate speech raises serious concerns about the moral and ethical fitness of these aspirants to lead the people of Anambra,” the statement concluded.
