Manchester United manager, Ruben Amorim, has revealed why he decided to bench Benjamin Sesko in Sunday’s clash against Liverpool, despite the striker’s recent good form.

Sesko, who had scored in two consecutive games, started from the bench as Amorim chose to lead the attack with Matheus Cunha, supported by Bryan Mbeumo and Mason Mount.

Following United’s 2-1 triumph at Anfield, Amorim explained that his tactical approach was influenced by Liverpool’s strong defensive pairing of Virgil van Dijk and Ibrahima Konaté.

“Sometimes the dynamics of a game dictate how you set up your team,” Amorim said. “With Cunha in the middle, I felt it would be harder for their centre-backs to control our attack compared to if Sesko played.

“When you win, people call it a smart decision, but if you lose, the manager gets the blame — that’s football,” he added with a smile.
