AGN Explains Cause of President-Elect Abubakar Yakubu’s Tragic Car Crash

The Actors Guild of Nigeria (AGN) has disclosed the cause of the car accident involving its newly elected president, Abubakar Yakubu.
In a statement issued on Thursday by the outgoing president, Emeka Rollas, the guild addressed the viral reports surrounding the tragic incident. Rollas noted that Yakubu “cooperated fully with law enforcement and emergency responders as a law-abiding citizen.”
He revealed that the crash resulted from an unexpected mechanical brake failure, which led to the death of a child and injuries to the child’s mother, who is currently undergoing medical treatment.
Yakubu was arrested in Lagos on Tuesday, 9 December 2025, following the accident that occurred in Surulere.
The tragedy struck less than 72 hours after Yakubu was elected president of the AGN on Saturday, 6 December 2025, in an election where he defeated actress Rita Daniels.
