The Chairman of Agatu Local Government Area and Deputy ALGON Chairman in Benue State, Hon. James Melvin Ejeh, has extended heartfelt condolences to the Obagaji community and the family of Mr. Moses Baba, who lost five of his children in a tragic boat mishap on Sunday evening.

The heartbreaking incident occurred when Mr. Baba and his five children were returning home from their farm in Obagaji. Their boat, said to be overloaded, reportedly capsized midstream, plunging all six occupants into the river.

While Mr. Baba miraculously survived, his five children sadly drowned before rescue efforts could reach them.

In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ambassador Obochi Solomon, Chairman Ejeh described the tragedy as “unfortunate, heart-wrenching, and deeply painful.”

He expressed profound sorrow over the loss and commended local volunteers and community members who participated in the rescue and recovery operation.

Ejeh prayed for divine comfort for the bereaved family, urging God to grant them strength and solace in their time of grief. He also appealed to residents to observe safety guidelines when traveling on waterways to avoid future accidents.

The council boss reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to promoting community safety and ensuring that such incidents are minimized across the local government area.
