After FIJ’s Story, UBA Refunds Strange Deduction From Customer’s Money

January 31,2023

The United Bank for Africa (UBA) has returned N20,726 to Ibrahim Gaya, whose account was emptied by a scammer in January.

This came three hours after FIJ published a story on the unauthorised deduction.

The money was deducted on the evening of January 24, a few minutes after Gaya received a strange sign-in notification.

UBA had claimed that the bank was not liable for the fraudulent transaction when contacted for comments. Gaya’s UBA account was, however, credited with the debited sum at exactly 12:28 pm on Tuesday

The refund

“Thank you so much for all you’ve done. They have refunded my money,” Gaya told FIJ

He also said he was working on closing down the account completely to prevent recurrence, as this was the second time a fraudster would empty that particular UBA account in two months
