Former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni, has singled out Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze for special praise following Nigeria’s 2–1 victory over Tanzania at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

Speaking after the match, Aiyegbeni described the duo as Nigeria’s standout performers against the Taifa Stars, applauding their contributions, particularly in midfield.

Iwobi played a key role in the encounter, providing the assist for Semi Ajayi’s opening goal and delivering an all-round impressive display throughout the match. The Fulham midfielder featured for the full 90 minutes and was widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s best performers on the day.

Chukwueze also caught the eye with his attacking runs and creativity, going close to scoring shortly before halftime. The winger was later substituted in the 59th minute for Moses Simon.

Commenting on their performance, Aiyegbeni noted that both players showed quality in creating chances, even though Nigeria were unfortunate not to score more goals.

“You have players like Alex Iwobi and Samuel Chukwueze, and they’ve done well so far. They tried to create opportunities, and they did create chances for Osimhen. It was just one of those days, but we still need that creativity in midfield,” Aiyegbeni said during an interview with News Central TV.

Iwobi remains Nigeria’s most capped active international with 92 appearances, scoring 10 goals for the Super Eagles. Chukwueze, on his part, has earned 52 caps and scored seven goals for the national team.
