Ghanaian referee Daniel Nii Laryea has addressed the backlash over his officiating during Nigeria’s semi-final clash against Morocco at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.

The match ended 0-0 after 120 minutes, with Morocco advancing on penalties. However, Laryea faced heavy criticism on social media and from some Nigerian football pundits, who accused him of making decisions that favoured the Atlas Lions.

Among the contentious calls was the booking of Nigeria’s Calvin Bassey, which has sidelined him for the remainder of the tournament. Super Eagles players, including Akor Adams and Bright Osayi-Samuel, also voiced their disappointment with the referee’s performance.

Speaking to Sporty TV, Laryea remained unbothered by the criticism, stating, “No, it’s okay. It’s football.”
