The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has launched an official investigation following the chaotic scenes that unfolded after Nigeria’s 2–0 victory over Algeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations quarter-final held in Marrakech.
Reports indicate that CAF is examining accounts from match officials, security personnel, and media representatives to determine the causes and parties responsible for the post-game disturbances.
The Super Eagles advanced to the semifinals thanks to second-half goals from Victor Osimhen and Akor Adams.
Tensions flared at full-time as Algerian players confronted referee Issa Sy and his assistants, accusing them of biased officiating. Stadium security intervened to prevent potential assaults.
Chaos also erupted in the stands, where Algerian fans reportedly tried to breach barriers and vandalized parts of the stadium, intensifying concerns over crowd control and safety measures.
CAF is expected to announce findings and possible sanctions after completing the investigation.
