AFCON 2023: Peseiro names most important Super Eagles player
The head coach of the Super Eagles, Jose Peseiro, has admitted that Napoli striker Victor Osimhen will be key to their success at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations
Osimhen bagged 15 goals during the qualifying series, finishing as the top scorer on the continent.
The 24-year-old missed the 2021 AFCON due to injury, but is certain to be one of the first names on Peseiro’s team sheet in Ivory Coast
Peseiro has now hailed him as the leader without an armband and emphasized his importance to the Nigerian national team.
When asked if the Eagles’ fate at the 2023 AFCON is in the hands of Osimhen, Peseiro told La Gazzetta dello Sport: ”It’s fundamental, there’s no point in hiding.
“The team is strong, but Victor… is Victor. I met him at the Bernabeu before the match against Real Madrid, we chatted in the hotel and I saw him calm, recharged. I told him that he will be our flagship in Ivory Coast
He is a hard worker, a leader without an armband, a tireless person. I am sure that he will become the next captain of Nigeria
