The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has recorded a major boost in Abia State, inducting about 5,000 new members barely a week after former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, joined the party.
The mass defection took place on Sunday in Umuaku, Ntigha, Isiala Ngwa North Local Government Area, led by the 2023 Accord Party governorship candidate in Abia, Bishop Emeka Nwankpa, at his country home.
Addressing the gathering, the defectors disclosed that they resigned from their former political platforms and support groups, including the South East Mandate for Good Governance, before aligning fully with the ADC alongside their leader.
Explaining his decision, Bishop Nwankpa said his move was driven by strong personal conviction, noting that the ADC’s ideology and manifesto resonate with his vision of people-focused leadership, social equity, and sustainable growth.
He described the ADC as a forward-looking and credible political platform capable of delivering inclusive governance and restoring citizens’ confidence in the political system.
The new members were formally received by the Abia State Chairman of ADC, Don Norman Obinna, who expressed optimism that the nation’s political momentum is steadily shifting in favour of the party.
