ADC Slams Tinubu for Retaining Minister Nnaji Amid Certificate Forgery Scandal, Says Corruption Thrives Under APC

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has criticized President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for retaining the Minister of Science, Technology, and Innovation, Uche Nnaji, in his cabinet despite mounting allegations of certificate forgery, describing the move as another example of the government’s “comfort with corruption.”
In a statement released on Monday by its National Publicity Secretary, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, the ADC said it was unsurprised that the Tinubu-led All Progressives Congress (APC) government had chosen silence over integrity.
“Despite credible evidence and public outrage, Mr. Uche Nnaji remains in office after admitting that the certificates he presented were not issued by the relevant institutions and may have been forged,” the statement read.
The party alleged that both the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN) and the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) had disowned the documents submitted by Nnaji for his ministerial appointment. It further claimed that court documents filed by the minister himself confirmed UNN never issued him a degree certificate.
“If the minister is not honourable enough to resign, why is the Tinubu government still keeping him in office?” the ADC asked.
The opposition party accused the APC administration of normalizing dishonesty and undermining Nigeria’s moral and ethical standards.
“This government’s tolerance for forgery and deceit shows that integrity and accountability have no place under its leadership,” the statement added.
The ADC urged President Tinubu to immediately suspend Uche Nnaji and order an independent investigation into the allegations. It insisted that, if found guilty, the minister should not only be dismissed but also prosecuted for forgery and perjury.
“Certificate forgery is a criminal act, not a clerical error. The longer the government delays justice, the clearer it becomes that the fight against corruption is merely lip service,” the ADC said.
The party also called on the Senate and the Department of State Services (DSS) to tighten their screening procedures for political appointees, stressing that such lapses undermine public confidence in governance.
