The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has alleged that Anambra State Governor, Charles Soludo, has lost the confidence of the electorate and is now using vote-buying tactics as the November 8 gubernatorial election approaches.
In a statement shared on X on Sunday, ADC spokesperson Bolaji Abdullahi criticised the governor’s reported actions, describing them as a troubling escalation of political desperation displayed with alarming impunity.
According to Abdullahi, a leader who still enjoys the trust of the people would not rely on inducement to secure votes. He asserted that the alleged conduct signals a significant disconnect between Soludo and the citizens he governs.
He further argued that any attempt to sway voters with financial or material incentives contravenes Sections 121 and 127 of the Electoral Act, which explicitly prohibit electoral inducement and classify such acts as criminal offences.
The opposition party called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to respond swiftly and ensure accountability, cautioning against silence or inaction in the face of what it termed a clear breach of democratic standards.
Abdullahi concluded by questioning whether the electoral umpire intends to ignore the situation, warning that continued impunity would undermine the integrity of the forthcoming election.
