The National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) has confirmed that three people lost their lives and more than 1,415 households were affected following a devastating flash flood in Adamawa State.
The disaster, triggered by heavy rainfall on Tuesday, hit communities in Yola North and Yola South Local Government Areas, leaving widespread destruction in its wake.
According to NEMA’s assessment, carried out in collaboration with the Adamawa State Emergency Management Agency (ADSEMA) and other partners, at least 13 communities were submerged. Over 40 residents sustained injuries, while farmlands, homes, and critical infrastructure were destroyed, displacing families and disrupting livelihoods.
Displaced Families and Relief Efforts
In its statement, the agency revealed that many displaced residents are currently staying with host families, while others have been relocated to the Girei flood resettlement camp.
“Urgent needs include food supplies, shelter, clean water, and medical assistance,” NEMA stated.
The agency also urged residents in flood-prone areas to remain alert and strictly follow early warning advisories as the rainy season progresses.
Government’s Respons
NEMA assured that it will continue working closely with ADSEMA, local emergency committees, and humanitarian partners to provide relief and reduce the impact of the disaster on vulnerable households.
The agency further emphasized the importance of preparedness, stressing that early action could save lives and protect property as flooding risks increase during the peak of the rainy season.
