Awka, Nigeria – July 31, 2025: Popular social media critic and activist, Martins Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), has expressed grief and outrage over the murder of prominent Anambra businessman, Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly called “Fish Magnet.”

Onyekere, the son of a chieftain of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) in Anambra State, was abducted on Saturday when heavily armed kidnappers invaded his residence in Ezinifite community, Okpuno, Awka South Local Government Area.

After days of uncertainty, the businessman’s lifeless body was discovered on Wednesday, sparking public outrage and renewed calls for improved security in the South-East.

VeryDarkMan Breaks Down in Tears
In an emotional video posted on his official Facebook page, VDM was seen weeping as he condemned the rising wave of kidnappings and killings in Anambra State and across Nigeria.

“The kidnapping and killings in Anambra State are too much. What is the hope of entrepreneurs? What is the hope of anyone going into business in Nigeria?” he lamented.

The activist further revealed plans to visit Anambra State on August 4 to lead a candlelight procession in honor of the late Fish Magnet, while also raising awareness on the growing insecurity in the region.

“We will do a walk in the fish market and create awareness about the kidnappings going on in Anambra,” VDM said, adding that the event would be scheduled to avoid the state’s sit-at-home days.

Growing Security Concerns in Anambra
Onyekere’s killing has once again highlighted the worsening security crisis in the South-East, where kidnappings, violent attacks, and targeted killings have left residents and business owners living in fear.

Authorities are yet to issue an official statement on the businessman’s death or confirm if any arrests have been made in connection with the incident.
