A woman identified as Mrs. Charity Olotu Fasasi has been hospitalised in Abuja after she was allegedly assaulted by her husband, David Fasasi Azeez, during a heated dispute over pregnancy and family planning.
The incident reportedly took place over the weekend in Ushafa, Bwari Area Council of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
When reporters visited the hospital, the victim was said to be too weak to grant an interview.
Neighbours familiar with the matter alleged that David Fasasi has a history of physically abusing his wife, describing the assault as part of a recurring pattern of domestic violence.
One neighbour disclosed that the latest conflict began after Mrs. Fasasi told her husband she was pregnant again. Rather than receiving the news with joy, the suspect allegedly demanded that she terminate the pregnancy.
“She said she was not going to terminate the baby, and the husband got angry that he was not ready for another child,” a neighbour claimed.
Another source alleged that the man offered his wife N5,000 to procure an abortion, but she refused. Under pressure, the victim reportedly took medication on her own in an attempt to terminate the pregnancy, leading to serious complications and heavy bleeding.
“When she started bleeding, the man turned around and questioned why she changed her mind. Everyone in the neighbourhood knows he beats her regularly, but she has not been speaking out,” the source added.
As of Monday morning, the suspect’s whereabouts remain unknown.
The case has been reported to the Ushafa Police Division, though the FCT Police Public Relations Officer has not yet issued an official statement.
